Readout of the National Security Advisor to the Vice President’s Meeting with Guatemalan Civil Society Election Observers

In advance of the first round of Guatemalan general elections on June 25th, National Security Advisor to the Vice President Dr. Phil Gordon hosted a virtual meeting today with a diverse group of civil society organizations in Guatemala who are engaged in the country’s electoral observation effort. Dr. Gordon reiterated U.S. support for free, fair, inclusive and peaceful elections and a transparent electoral process. Vice President Harris continues to lead the implementation of the U.S. Strategy to Address the Root Causes of Migration in Central America, which includes a focus on democratic governance and support for civil society, and the Vice President remains committed to strengthening these efforts throughout northern Central America.
